Some dealers don't know much about what they sell! They just buy a Franchise and then look at their sales figures all the time. Your dealer probably didn't even know that the Savage is a single-cylinder bike!
Use the highest-octane fuel you can find! My last tankful was 100-octane Aviation Fuel from my local airport, but I never buy anything below 93 at the commercial stations! Your bike's 8.5:1 compression ratio will allow it to use the 88-octane dishwater, but why not use the best? It can't be a matter of economy, seeing that the Savage gets 50 MPG or more!
